Neal Brown’s Thoughts Following Penn State Loss

STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania — The West Virginia Mountaineers dropped to 0-1 to start the 2023 season, losing to the #7 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions 35-17. West Virginia head coach Neal Brown met with the media and had the following to say after the loss:

“Tough opener. They’re very good and talented. Defensively, they are probably as good as we’ll see all year. I’m zero discouraged with our guys. They have a team that can play in the Playoffs, we have a really good team. Really clean game overall and we managed the game well. I have no doubt we will bounce back. We are onward and upward! We had some opportunities, but they were going to have to make some turnovers and they didn’t. They deserve to be the 7th ranked team in the country and I think they’ll move up.”

“There have been a lot of really good West Virginia teams that have bounced back after a loss here and I think we’ll be one of them. Coming in here, I know we have a good football team and this is a tough place to play. I knew we were going to have to get some breaks and they were going to have to turn it over. Am I disappointed? Yeah. But am I discouraged in our football team? No.”
