Nicco Marchiol is a National Player of the Year Candidate

Morgantown, WV – West Virginia’s quarterback situation this season is very murky, but it’s crystal-clear who will lead the Mountaineers in the very near future.  Nicco Marchiol, a four star quarterback out of Chandler, Arizona, has committed to play for West Virginia and will come to Morgantown next season as a freshman.

On Friday, Marchiol had another incredible performance, finishing 16-20 with 3 touchdown passes and a 160.4 quarterback rating, leading his Hamilton High School football team to a 58-17 blowout victory over Highley High School.

Marchiol, who has already broken the single-season touchdown passes record for Hamilton High, has now completed 157-211 passes for 2186 yards (242.9 yards per game), 32 touchdown passes and only 1 interception this season.  Numbers like this have placed in squarely in the conversation for national high school football player of the year.

Although the quarterback room will potentially be very crowded next season with the possibility of redshirt senior Jarret Doege, redshirt freshman Garrett Greene and freshman Will “Goose” Crowder returning, Marchiol will still likely compete for the starting role as a true freshman.

Next up for Marchiol and Hamilton High School is rival Chandler High School, a battle of the top two teams in Arizona.
