West Virginia is slated as a 10 seed in the latest version of ESPN’s Bracketology https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has the Mountaineers matched up against Colorado, his seventh seed, in the Midwest Region. WVU is podded in the Spokane, Wash., location for the first and second rounds.
CBS’s Bracketologist Jerry Palm is less bullish on West Virginia. Palm has the Mountaineers on the outside of the NCAA tournament for a second straight year https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/bracketology/. Palm also doesn’t have West Virginia as one of the first four out in his forecast.
Likewise, Bleacher Report doesn’t think WVU goes dancing this season. It its initial forecast https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2860364-way-too-early-projections-for-2020-mens-ncaa-tournament-bracket, B/R has five Big 12 teams – Kansas, Texas Tech, Baylor, Texas and Iowa State dancing. It also has Oklahoma as the first team out for the Big 12, meaning B/R sees WVU as no better than the seventh best team in the conference.
WVU’s opponent Tuesday night in the Cancun Challenge, Northern Iowa, is this week’s ESPN Bracketology as a 14 seed. West Virginia faces off against UNI at 8:30 p.m. The game airs on CBS Sports Network.
