Morgantown, West Virginia – Darnell Wright, the 6’6 330 pound former five star recruit and top ten prospect, has not entered the transfer portal yet. However, The Voice of Motown broke the news earlier this evening that Wright has in fact left the University of Tennessee, according to the school’s student database.
Here are the updated odds on where Wright will play next season:
Tennessee Volunteers: After several of his teammates bolted Knoxville recently, there has been silence from Darnell Wright. However, the student database at Tennessee shows that he left the school yesterday, January 22nd.
VOM’s own Clark Johnson reported tonight that his source says Wright could be staying put in Knoxville, but it seems like a long shot considering that he’s left the school. At this point, it would be shocking to see him in orange next season. Odds: 50-1
Marshall Thundering Herd: Yes, we all know that Huntington is…well, Huntington, but home is home, and Darnell Wright was born and raised there.
In addition, newly-minted head coach of the Herd, Charles Huff, is widely considered one of the very best recruiters in college football. Huff could certainly sell Wright on coming home and building the Marshall offense around him. Odds: 10-1
The Field: Even though Wright has been disappointing in Knoxville, he is still a 6’6 330 pound player who has the talent to one day play professionally in the NFL with the right coaching and situation.
If one of the top programs in the country (Alabama, Clemson, etc.) come in and pursue him hard, anything is possible. Odds: 7-1
West Virginia Mountaineers: Virtually every person that I’ve spoken to about Wright says that it’s essentially a lock for him to end up in Morgantown if/when he enters the portal. John Dunn, a sports editor in Tennessee who covers the Volunteers, said the following: “In my opinion, West Virginia is the only destination for Wright, if he does indeed decide to transfer.”
Having said that, Wright will have a lot of options and many coaches in his ear, and to be clear, he’s not even in the transfer portal yet, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and there’s a lot of smoke surrounding Wright to WVU. Odds: 2-1
