Mountaineer fans will not like this.

Pete Mundo, a columnist for Heartland College Sports, recently revealed his predictions for the “first loss” for every Big 12 team in 2021. The Mountaineers, not being the mighty Oklahoma Sooners, of course were included on this list. However, the team that Mundo selected for West Virginia to lose to may sour some in Mountaineer Nation.

According to Mundo, WVU will lose their season opening road trip against the Maryland Terrapins on September 4th. Yes, our arch rival will knock us off right out of the gate. That’s not exactly how you want to start the third season under Neal Brown.

Though he “hopes” he is wrong, Mundo alluded to the returning experience for Maryland as a reason for favoring them. Little does he know, however, that the Mountaineers also bring back a good bit of experience.

The season opener is still quite a way off, so we will have time to continue to spat over predictions. Until then, keep faith in the Gold & Blue. There is a big season ahead.
