Popular Magazine on West Virginia Football: Worst Roster in the Big 12

Athlon Sports’ season preview recently came out and they had a lot of negative things to say about the West Virginia Mountaineers football program and its head coach, Neal Brown.

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — The West Virginia football team enters the 2023-2024 season with very few expectations, but according to several media members, this season is going to be particularly disastrous for the Mountaineers.

Athlon Sports recently released their upcoming season preview and absolutely blasted the current roster and state of the West Virginia football program. Athlon had the following to say about the current West Virginia team: “This might be the worst roster in the league. They have some talent, but they’re not physical at all. They’re really small, especially compared to the old WVU teams. The defense is legitimately bad. They look like a MAC team compared to the rest of the league, and he (Neal Brown) didn’t fire any of his coaches.”

There’s a lot to take in in that brief paragraph about the Mountaineers and its head coach, Neal Brown. Although Brown has said that his team will be better, there is very little reason to believe that that is true. Most of the players added to the team in the offseason either come from a smaller conference, or had little to no production at the Power 5 level.

West Virginia fans are desperate for a winning season and a return of the Mountaineers to their former glory, but it looks like we’ll have to wait for that to happen. There’s simply no reason to get excited about the current state of the football program.
