It’s been a pretty slow Tuesday, so let’s have a little fun. Today, we’re going to try to take a crack at predicting WVU’s uniforms for all 12 games on the schedule for this football season.
There’s no time to waste, so here are our uniform predictions for 2021:
- Sept. 4: at Maryland – Blue Helmets, White Jerseys, Blue Pants
Unless Maryland has a special uniform planned, the Mountaineers will be rolling out with their roads on for this game. Being that it is a traditional rival, and one that has been struggling at that, I don’t expect anything unique from WVU for this game. The Mountaineers will wear one of their oldest, but best combinations. - Sept: 11: LIU – Blue Helmets, Blue Jerseys, Gold Pants
Again, nothing special from the Mountaineers here. They open up their home portion of the slate with their signature uniform.
- Sept. 18: Virginia Tech – Blue Helmets, Grey Jerseys, Grey Pants
The grey uniforms have not been worn since 2019 against Iowa State, but a contest against Virginia Tech will be the best time to put them on display. The entire state will be watching, so West Virginia will have on their best alternate uniform.
- Sept. 25: at Oklahoma – White Helmets, White Jerseys, White Pants
A trip to Norman always calls for the “Stormtrooper” uniforms. The Mountaineers bring out the all white for the biggest game on their schedule.
- Oct. 2: Texas Tech – Blue Helmets, Gold Jerseys, Blue Pants
I’m going to go ahead and guess that Texas Tech will be “Stripe the Stadium” at Mountaineer Field, which will call for this specific uniform. This one is arguably WVU’s best looking home uniform.
- Oct. 9: at Baylor – Gold Helmets, White Jerseys, Gold Pants
This is a road uniform that WVU always throws in somewhere. A road trip to Waco seems like the perfect time for it.
- Oct. 23: at TCU – Blue Helmets, White Jerseys, White Pants
A pretty standard road uniform for WVU here. Nothing flashy or new for a trip to Fort Worth.
- Oct. 30: Iowa State – Blue Helmets, Gold Jerseys, Gold Pants
Time for WVU’s “Gold Rush.” Iowa State will be coming in ranked, and the home crowd will be electric. The Mountaineers rarely wear gold from head to toe for these games, and I doubt they will here.
- Nov. 6: Oklahoma State – Military Appreciation Helmets, Blue Jerseys, White Pants
Since we’ll be coming up on Veteran’s Day, I expect the Mountaineers to don this uniform once again. The Military Appreciation helmets are very popular in the Mountain State.
- Nov. 13: at Kansas State – Gold Helmets, White Jerseys, White Pants
Not a combo that WVU wears often, but I think it will work perfectly for this matchup with the Wildcats.
- Nov. 20: Texas – Blue Helmets, Blue Jerseys, Blue Pants
“True Blue” will be saved for Senior Day in Morgantown.
- Nov. 27: at Kansas – Blue Helmets, White Jerseys, Blue Pants
Kansas will likely still be winless by this time, so don’t expect WVU to pull out anything different. As they did in the opener, the Mountaineers wear a pretty standard uniform to close.
