Morgantown, West Virginia – Another open SEC head coaching position available, another mention of West Virginia head coach Neal Brown as a candidate.
Two weeks ago, the South Carolina position was available and Brown was discussed as a potential head coach there. Brown denied interest, saying, “I’m not a candidate there.” South Carolina went on to hire Shane Beamer days later.
Auburn recently fired Gus Malzahn, leaving an opening at Auburn. And according to Josh Pate, the National Director of Video for 247 Sports, Auburn might just be interested in Neal Brown.
In Pate’s latest message on social media today, he said the following: “Auburn latest – Neal Brown is certainly in play for the job. The closer you get to the center of this search the harder it becomes finding consensus on any “favorite.”

Brown just brought one of the best recruiting classes to Morgantown in West Virginia football history and has many returning starters to a team that finished 5-4 this season, but Auburn is a high-profile university that could likely pay him more money in arguably the best conference in college football.
Hopefully Brown makes a statement denying any interest in the position soon. Neal Brown is a special coach and we’d love to have him at West Virginia University for the remainder of his career.
