MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — Rich Rodriguez was busy coaching the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to a Conference USA Championship last season, so he didn’t see much of Neal Brown’s West Virginia Mountaineers last season. However, according to Rodriguez, he didn’t like much of what he saw from the team when he did.

“I didn’t watch much of the tape (of last year’s team). I did see the finale against Texas Tech. I watched a little bit of that game…until I threw up.”

The Mountaineers, who finished the season 6-7, lost that game in Lubbock, Texas 15-52 in the team’s final game under Neal Brown.  Of all the ugly games played under Neal Brown in his 6 seasons with the team, this may have been one of the ugliest. The Mountaineers’ defense gave up 569 yards to the Red Raiders in an absolute blowout loss.

Of course, most West Virginia fans agree with Rodriguez’s assessment of the game. Fortunately, Brown was fired following the loss and Chad Scott replaced him as the interim head coach for the Frisco Bowl game against the Memphis Tigers. The Mountaineers also lost that game, 37-42, to close out the Neal Brown Era at West Virginia.
