Former WVU Head Coach Rich Rodriguez earned a huge first FBS win at Jacksonville State today.
Jacksonville, AL – For the first time in the program’s history, the Jacksonville State Gamecocks played a game as a member of the FBS. Former WVU Head Coach Rich Rodriguez was tasked with the challenge of leading the Gamecocks into their new home in Conference USA, and delivered in a huge way today.
Moments ago, Rodriguez and the Gamecocks closed out a 17-14 win over the UTEP Miners. This puts Jacksonville State a 1-0 overall, as well as 1-0 in Conference USA play, all before the season officially begins.
While it may not seem like much to the average fan, taking a program from the FCS to the FBS, and winning immediately is very hard.
If Rodriguez can string together a solid season, he may be featured on the short lists of some Power Five programs who decide to make a change at head coach.
