Morgantown, West Virginia – Where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire. And there is a lot of smoking surrounding rumors that Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley is leaving the Sooners to fill the head coach vacancy at LSU.
Riley, who has a 55-9 overall record and a 37-6 record in the Big 12 Conference in his 5th season as the head coach at Oklahoma, is widely considered one of the best coaches in college football.
Today, rumors of Riley agreeing to coach LSU following this season for approximately $12-14 million a year have surfaced. That yearly salary would nearly double his current salary at Oklahoma.
The rumors started when Riley suddenly had several new followers on Twitter associated with LSU. Top LSU recruiting targets Harold Perkins and Walker Howard, as well as LSU wide receiver Jack Bech, all followed Riley almost simultaneously today. In addition, Riley received follows today from Will Wade, LSU’s head basketball coach, and Jay Johnson, the head baseball coach of the Tigers.
In addition, rumors have circulated on social media that Lincoln Riley met with his team earlier today and although he didn’t say he was leaving after this season, he didn’t exactly say he wasn’t either.
