Shane Lyons Congratulates WVU

Morgantown, WV – Following a 30-10 victory over North Carolina in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, social media was buzzing about the West Virginia Mountaineers. In a season where they were expected to be the worst team in the Big 12, Neal Brown led his squad to a 9-4 finish.

With the nation taking notice of WVU, one person surprisingly came out in support of the Mountaineers following their victory last night. Former Athletic Director Shane Lyons posted in support of WVU on X last night, and as expected, the response wasn’t as positive as he would have hoped.

Lyons was fired as WVU’s athletic director following a triumphant win over Oklahoma in 2022. While it was certainly warranted, Lyons was not pleased with the situation, as shown during his conversation with MetroNews regarding the decision. It didn’t take long for him to find a new job, however, as he landed on his feet at Alabama less than two weeks later.

Despite the negativity towards Lyons, it was a classy move by him to reach out to his former employer to extend a congratulations. Not many would wish their former employer well. He will certainly have another chance to lead an athletic program again. And when he does, we wish him nothing but the best.
