On Thanksgiving night in 2022, the West Virginia Mountaineers men’s basketball team will face Purdue in the opening round at the Phil Knight Legacy Tournament. After that, the Mountaineers will play either Gonzaga or Portland State in their second contest of the day. In addition to Xavier, Duke, Florida, and Oregon State, the other teams that will be contending in the tournament are Florida and Oregon State. The top teams have been to a total of 202 NCAA Tournaments, 30 Final Fours, and won a total of seven national titles.
The Mountaineers’ only victory over the Boilermakers came in 2011 when Purdue was ranked eighth in the country. WVU has continued to play Purdue 8 times throughout the history of the program. The last time these two teams met, the Boilermakers came out on top by a slim margin.
