The West Virginia Mountaineers are still searching for the respect they deserve from the Associated Press, jumping from #22 in the AP Poll last week to #16 after beating the former #2 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes in Cleveland.
The Mountaineers, now 11-1, have the toughest strength of schedule in the nation and is ranked #1 by the RPI. West Virginia’s only loss this season was to a tough 11-2 St. John’s team at Madison Square Garden.
While rankings are essentially meaningless at this time of the year, it would be nice to see that West Virginia finally start to get respect from the voters. The Mountaineers will next play at Lawrence, Kansas against the #3 ranked Kansas Jayhawks to open Big 12 Conference play.
