The NIT Brackets Have Been Released

Morgantown, West Virginia – The West Virginia Mountaineers (16-17 overall, 4-14 in the Big 12 Conference) were obviously not invited to participate in the NCAA Tournament and WVU officials also recently announced that the team would not play in the CBI tournament.

The only remaining postseason option left was the NIT, the secondary college basketball tournament. Although the NIT has not selected a team with a record under .500 since 2006, there was hope that the Mountaineers would still be considered for the tournament.

Unfortunately, the Mountaineers were not one of the 32 teams invited to play in the NIT.

This means that seniors Gabe Osabuohien, Taz Sherman, Malik Curry, Dimon Carrigan and Pauly Paulicap have played their final collegiate game. Fellow seniors Sean McNeil and Kedrian Johnson have the option to return for one more season if they chose to do so.

It will be a very interesting offseason for Bob Huggins and the West Virginia Mountaineers!
