MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — The West Virginia Mountaineers have landed several talented players from the transfer portal since Rich Rodriguez took over the program last month, but Rodriguez and his staff are now on the verge of landing perhaps the best, most impactful player on their radar.

Jimmori Robinson, a first team All-AAC linebacker at UTSA, had 43 tackles and 10.5 sacks this past season, and he is heavily being pursued by the Mountaineers. Robinson, a 6´5 250 pound defender from Alexandria, Virginia, visited Morgantown on an official visit recently and has cut his choice down to two schools: West Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Although Virginia Tech would be the pick if getting closer to home was his top priority, but I was told today by someone in his camp that Robinson is very much interested in West Virginia, and I left the conversation believing that the Mountaineers were the heavy favorites to land him.

¨I can tell you he loves the facility and the plans that the coaches have for him at West Virginia,” a person close to Robinson told me today. ¨Our meeting at our official visit was great. He can see himself playing and dominating there. That´s what I can tell you now.¨

When I asked when Robinson was going to make his decision, I was told ¨tomorrow.¨

In addition, there have been rumors circulating online that Robinson may not be academically eligible to play at Virginia Tech, but I was told that that is simply not the case. ¨That´s not true. He´s good to attend either school.¨

Earlier this month, Rivals´ Adam Friedman listed Robinson as the top linebacker in the transfer portal, and Robinson is considered a player that will play at a high level in the NFL one day. Robinson is also ranked as the #7 best players available in the transfer portal by 247 Sports and he would almost certainly be an impactful Day 1 starter for the Mountaineers.

Although Robinson is a Virginia native and Virginia Tech has heavily pursued him, I believe based on conversations I had today that West Virginia has a very good shot at making Robinson a Mountaineer in 2025. Stay tuned to The Voice of Morgantown for updates on this developing story and for Robinson´s commitment tomorrow, January 15th.
