To Jevon from Mountaineer Nation

Dear Jevon,

First of all, on behalf of all of Mountaineer Nation and the entire state of West Virginia, we couldn’t be any more proud of you.  No one is more deserving of your recent contract and no one has worked harder for it.

Your four years in Morgantown were filled with some of the best moments in West Virginia basketball history, and you not only made West Virginians proud while you were here, you continue to do so in the National Basketball Association and in your every day life.

As you know, West Virginia is a small, poor state, but you proved that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible.  You came to Morgantown out of high school as an underrated, overlooked player that Bob Huggins saw something special in and grew into one of the best, most celebrated, most adored players to ever step on the WVU Coliseum floor.

But know that it wasn’t the fact that finished your brilliant career as a four-time All Big 12 Team member, a two-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, a two-time NABC Defensive Player of the Year, the all-time West Virginia career steals leader, as well as the West Virginia single-season steal and assists leader, nor is it because you led the Mountaineers to four consecutive NCAA Tournament berths and three Sweet Sixteen appearances.

It was the way that you did it.  It was the endless hours in the gym when no one was watching you, it was your Treadmill Mentality, it was the fact that you didn’t take a single play off during your incredible four year career with the Mountaineers, and it was the fact that you beat the odds by out-working the competition.

You are obviously aware that West Virginians adore you – Mountaineer fans still come out in droves to follow you on the road and you literally have 1.8 million people cheering you on every time you step on the floor – but it’s important to know that you have inspired so many people from an underrated, overlooked state to work harder, to achieve their goals and to know that anything is possible.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Jevon.

Sincerely,
