With Matt Rhule taking off to Charlotte to coach the Panthers, this leaves Baylor in the midst of a coaching search. Here are The Voice of West Virginia’s top 3 candidates to replace Rhule at Baylor:
- Blake Anderson, Head Coach-Arkansas State: After losing his wife to cancer in the 2019 season, Anderson coached the Red Wolves to an 8-5 record and a bowl victory. Anderson has been at Arkansas State since 2014 and has a 47-30 record to show for it. He also began his college playing career at Baylor as a Quarterback and Wide Receiver in the late 1980s.
- Luke Fickell, Head Coach-Cincinnati: If the Bears want someone who has built a program in a short amount of time much like Rhule did at Temple, Fickell is their guy. After a 4-8 season in his first year at Cincinnati, Fickell has followed that with two straight 11-win seasons. Fickell was also in the running for the WVU job in 2019.
- Sonny Dykes, Head Coach-SMU: After a not so successful stint at Cal, Dykes has proven he can lead a successful program with his recent resurgence at SMU. Dykes lead the Mustangs to a 10-3 finish in 2019, his best season as a head coach. Expect the Bears to potentially give him a look.
Other possible candidates:
Dave Aranda, Defensive Coordinator-LSU
Will Healy, Head Coach-Charlotte
Steve Ensminger, Offensive Coordinator-LSU
