Morgantown, West Virginia – The name that immediately popped up to fill the vacant women’s head coach position at West Virginia when Dawn Plitzuweit left for Minnesota was current Glenville State head coach Kim Stephens.
However, Stephens, who has led the Lady Pioneers to a 112-10 record in seven seasons and won the 2022 NCAA Division II Championship last season, has officially accepted the head coach position at Marshall.
West Virginia director of athletics Wren Baker spoke briefly of Stephens during a recent press conference, saying that he was familiar with her work and respected what she’s done at Glenville State. While Stephens was among the favorites to land the position, Baker said that he will do a nationwide search for the best possible fit for the Lady Mountaineers.
Welcome to the Family, Kim! 🤘🏀@CoachStephens_ becomes Marshall’s 8th Women’s Basketball Coach.
