
While it is not the most popular position on the field, punter is certainly important.
With the official release of WVU’s week one depth chart, the battle for punting duties has officially been resolved for the Mountaineers. Former Troy Trojan, Tyler Sumpter, will be punting for West Virginia this season.
This comes after he beat out redshirt freshman Kolton McGhee during fall camp.

During his three seasons playing for the Trojans, Sumpter punted a total of 156 times for 6,579 yards for an average of 42.2 yards per boot.
Sumpter previously played three seasons under head coach Neal Brown while he was at Troy.
