Morgantown, West Virginia – Up until just a few moments ago, former West Virginia defensive coordinator Vic Koenning’s social media profile read “West Virginia Mountaineers Defensive Coordinator.”
This afternoon, Koenning updated it to read: “Proud parent, husband, coach for 33 years. Lots of great players and people Graced by God.”
In addition to the profile being updated, he changed his social media background from a photo of Mountaineer Field to a picture of his two dogs.
Koenning’s username still has “_WVU” at the end of his name, but it’s obvious that he’s ready to move on from his brief stint at West Virginia University. Koenning and the university “mutually separated” following accusations from sophomore defensive back Kerry Martin, Jr. and a subsequent independent investigation.
It’s unclear whether Koenning will have another chance to coach or whether he will retire after 33 years in the sport, but Koenning remains confident that he’ll be back on the sidelines: ” I am not done coaching. I remain passionate about leading young men and look forward to the next coaching chapter in my life. I wish nothing but the best for all Mountaineers.”
