On May 21, 2012, Mountaineer Nation suffered a great loss. Former head coach and true Mountaineer Bill Stewart lost his life suddenly, leaving many across the Mountain State stunned. Today, eight years later, we celebrate him as one of the best Mountaineers ever.
His legacy will always be headlined by his famous “Leave No Doubt” pregame speech prior to the 2008 Fiesta Bowl. It was here that the late coach displayed his true character and care for the Mountaineer Football program. He had faith that his men would get it done that night, and that is exactly what would happen.
There is no simpler way to put it, we miss you, Coach Stew. We miss your passion and your Mountaineer Pride. There is a void in the center of Mountaineer Nation, as the best who ever lived is no longer here with us. I thank you for being the reason I fell in love with Mountaineer Football, and being the first head coach I ever got to see roaming the sidelines.
Once a Mountaineer, Always a Mountaineer…
