West Virginia Cruises in Big 12 Opening Round

Morgantown, West Virginia – The West Virginia Mountaineers (19-13) made a statement, easily cruising in the opening round of the Big 12 Championship, beating the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 78-62. With the win, the Mountaineers have left no doubt that they will receive a bid in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

West Virginia had a balanced attack offensively with four players scoring in double figures. Senior point guard Kedrian Johnson had 20 points and 5 rebounds, Erik Stevenson had 18 points and 6 assists, Tre Mitchell finished with 17 points and 9 rebounds and Emmitt Matthews added 13 points.

The Mountaineers are back in action tomorrow against the #1 ranked team in the Big 12, the Kansas Jayhawks. The game begins at 3:00PM and will be televised live on ESPN/ESPN2.
