Cinncinati, Ohio — West Virginia showed serious grit on the road Wednesday night, storming back in the second half to knock off the Cincinnati Bearcats, 59–54, for a massive Big 12 Conference win away from home.

After struggling to find consistency in the opening half, the West Virginia Mountaineers flipped the switch after the break, leaning on timely defense and a clutch offensive surge to erase the deficit and take control late. The comeback was fueled by guard Honor Huff, who delivered one of his most impressive performances of the season.

Huff finished the night with a team-high 16 points and five assists, but his impact went far beyond the box score. During a pivotal stretch in the second half, Huff poured in 12 consecutive points, single-handedly keeping the Mountaineers within striking distance and eventually pushing them ahead. His confidence and poise steadied West Virginia when it mattered most.

The Mountaineers also received valuable contributions from their supporting cast. Freshman forward DJ Thomas provided an instant spark off the bench, scoring 14 points and giving West Virginia a much-needed offensive boost. Senior Brenen Lorient added eleven points, including key buckets that helped seal the win down the stretch.

With the victory, West Virginia improves to 15–8 overall and 6–4 in Big 12 play, strengthening its position in a league that offers little margin for error—especially on the road. Winning in a hostile environment against a conference opponent is the kind of result that can define a season.

The Mountaineers won’t have long to celebrate. West Virginia returns to action this Sunday, February 8, at 1:00 p.m. when it hosts the No. 14-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders in what sets up as another critical Big 12 showdown. If Wednesday night was any indication, this team won’t back down from the challenge.
