Everything isn’t all bad for the Old Gold & Blue, folks. Though everyone was wishing for a better start than 2-2, the offense has taken a massive step forward in 2022. So much so that the Big 12 Conference’s leaders in passing, rushing, and receiving are all on the Mountaineers.

Big 12 Statistical Leaders per ESPN

  • PASSING = JT Daniels/956 yards
  • RUSHING = CJ Donaldson/380 yards
  • RECEIVING = Bryce Ford-Wheaton/319 yards

If you were to look back over Neal Brown’s tenure in Morgantown and compare statistics, this is a massive improvement. Brown’s willingness to finally hand over play-calling duties has really proven to be beneficial, moving the team and the offensive unit in the right direction.

Should the unit continue to produce, there is no reason to believe that the Mountaineers can’t be highly competitive in the Big 12 and potentially make some noise. Of course there will be times the offense will hit a sputter point, that happens to everyone. However, they now have the talent to fight their way out of a “funk” quicker than they previously have – particularly with Jarret Doege under center.

Mountaineer Field better get its scoreboard lights ready! The air raid is back and in full force! The fun is only getting started.
