West Virginia Kansas State GAME DAY PREDICTIONS

Morgantown, West Virginia – The West Virginia Mountaineers, 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the Big 12 Conference, host the Kansas State Wildcats, 4-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference.  The Mountaineers will attempt to bounce back after a disappointing loss at Texas Tech while Kansas State looks to continue their hot streak, having won their last four games.  Here’s how our staff experts think the game will go down today in Morgantown.

Clark Johnson, Football Analyst, The Voice of Motown (4-1 on the season):  I was hoping to go 10-0 picking games this season, but that got shot in the ass with the loss at Texas Tech last week.  This week will be an entirely different animal, however.

Kansas State is better than Texas Tech, and the Wildcats are one of the hottest teams in the conference.  But this Mountaineer team will be pissed off.  I believe in Coach Brown and I TRUST THE CLIMB.  Sam James finally holds onto an important pass, and the Mountaineers narrowly win at home.

Hank Steinmiller, Writer, The Voice of Motown (4-1 on the season):  WVU somehow enters this game as favorites.  Five games into the year should give you a solid idea of what kind of team you have.  The Mountaineers have an improved team but just aren’t quite there yet.

They’ve taken the step of playing competitively in every game, but they’re struggling to win close games.  That continues this week.

Aaron Shamblin, Writer, The Voice of Motown (4-1 on the season): What can you say about this offensive scheme and playcalling?  It’s bad.  Really bad.  Combine that with a lack of discipline and the most WR drops in the nation and our elite Defense just doesn’t stand a chance.

If we do the smart thing and pound the rock with Leddie Brown 30+ times a game, we could hang with and beat just about anyone.  Unfortunately, Coach Brown wants to throw the ball 50 times a game when our QB has a weak arm and our WRs couldn’t catch a cold if they went swimming in Cheat Lake during January.

KSU’s Senior QB Skylar Thompson is hurt so they have a Freshman starting.  If we can limit mistakes, play disciplined without stupid penalties and give Leddie 25-30 touches – we will win.  If we continue to play the same mistake-ridden football and throw 40-50 times – we will continue to lose.

Brad Smith, Senior Writer/Owner, The Voice of Motown (2-3 on the season): I don’t think there’s any question that West Virginia is once again the better football team, but they were also the better team against Oklahoma State sans their starting quarterback and last week at Texas Tech sans half their offensive starters.

We’re so close to being very good, but the Mountaineers seem to find ways to lose right now.  Like every team in the Big 12 (minus Kansas), Kansas State will be very prepared and I think they get the win today.  I hope I’m wrong, but I see another sloppy game for the Mountaineers that we’ll be left scratching our heads about.
