Morgantown, West Virginia – Moments ago, Zeiqui Lawton, the former #2 high school player in the state of West Virginia, committed to play for the West Virginia Mountaineers!

Lawton, a 6’2 240 pound defensive end from Charleston, West Virginia, was a freshman lineman for the Cincinnati Bearcats before leaving the team and entering the transfer portal last week.  Lawton helped guide South Charleston to the AAA State Championship as a senior in high school last season and won the Sam Huff Award for the state’s top defensive player.

West Virginia, Illinois, Louisville, Indiana, Marshall, NC State, Nebraska and Oregon all offered Lawton out of high school, but Neal Brown said that he would make keeping the top talent in the state stay home and Lawton was one of the finest young players in West Virginia last season, so bringing him back home is a massive win for the West Virginia coaching staff.
