MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — West Virginia just landed one of the biggest recruiting victories in program history!

Kevin Brown, the No. 3-ranked offensive lineman in the nation and a consensus four-star recruit, has committed to the West Virginia Mountaineers, becoming one of the highest-rated players ever to choose WVU.

Brown, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound offensive tackle from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was originally committed to Penn State. But when James Franklin was fired as head coach of the Nittany Lions, the blue-chip lineman reopened his recruitment.

West Virginia Wins a National Recruiting Battle

After decommitting from Penn State, Brown took visits to:

  • Morgantown, West Virginia (WVU)

  • Columbus, Ohio (Ohio State)

In the end, the Mountaineers—led by head coach Rich Rodriguez—won out.

Brown described his visit to WVU as the turning point in his recruitment:

“It was excellent… They exceeded my expectations. They really believe in me and I can see myself sliding right in at right tackle.”

That belief, he said, was the difference.

A Program-Changing Commitment

Kevin Brown is not just another recruit—he’s a foundational building block.

  • #3 Offensive Lineman in the Nation

  • One of the highest-rated commitments in West Virginia football history

  • Prototype size and athleticism at 6’5”, 290 pounds

  • Projected to play right tackle early in his career

For Rich Rodriguez and his staff, this is a massive win—proof that WVU is becoming a serious player again on the national recruiting stage.

Why Brown Chose WVU

Sources close to the recruitment say it came down to three key factors:

  • Comfort and Culture in Morgantown
  • Rodriguez’s vision for him as an immediate-impact right tackle
  • Trust that West Virginia believes in developing him into an NFL-caliber lineman

Brown’s quote says it all: he didn’t just feel recruited, he felt wanted.

This commitment sends a message across college football: West Virginia is back in the fight for elite talent.

  • WVU secures a national Top-100 player

  • Brown could anchor the offensive line for years to come

  • Rodriguez proves he can win head-to-head against programs like Ohio State and Penn State

This is a program-defining moment for the Mountaineers—and it could be just the beginning.

Welcome to Morgantown, Kevin Brown.
