West Virginia Needs to Extend Neal Brown…Now

Does a coach with an overall record of 7-8 really deserve an extension? Well, in the case of Neal Brown, that answer is hell yes.

When the Mountaineers brought on Coach Brown in January 2019, I was convinced they struck gold. Brown brought with him a track record of building a program and building it quickly. After just three games into his second year in Morgantown, I am 100% convinced he deserves an extension already.

Dana Holgorsen left Brown with virtually nothing to work with. The cupboard was completely bare and things were not looking good for the program moving forward.

Since Brown has arrived the Mountaineers have excelled on the recruiting trail, and they have now begun to show improvement on the field. Even with all of the offensive struggles so far, this team is far better than the 2019 edition.

I believe Neal Brown will have the Mountaineers competing at a high level in the near future – the very near future. When that day comes, multiple programs will be nipping at his heels trying to sway him out of Morgantown. Shane Lyons and the athletic department can avoid that now by giving him an extension and a hefty buyout.

Complain all you want to about his play-calling and what have you, but Neal Brown is absolutely the man for the job in Morgantown. We need him to stick around for a very, very long time. He can bring this program to heights it hasn’t experienced in well over a decade.

This ascension to relevancy has begun, and the time is now to lock down Brown for the long haul.
