MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — The West Virginia Mountaineers moved to 2-1 with a 17-6 win over hated rival Pitt Panthers in the Backyard Brawl last night. Although CJ Donaldson had a big game, rushing 18 times for 102 yards and 1 touchdown, our Player of the Game actually comes from Pitt.

Pitt starting quarterback Phil Jurkovec, a 6’5 from Pittsburgh, PA, did more to help the Mountaineers than any player on the West Virginia roster. Jurkovec played the entire game and finished 8/20 for 81 yards, 0 touchdowns and 3 interceptions and ended the game with an unbelievably bad 44.0 quarterback rating.

In addition to his poor passing statistics, Jurkovec had zero pocket presence, terrible decision-making and non-existent ability to escape pressure. With all things considered, Phil Jurkovec was the most valuable player on the field for the West Virginia Mountaineers last night.
