West Virginia Ranked Highly in Latest Power Rankings

Morgantown, West Virginia – The West Virginia Mountaineers, 11-1, have looked inconsistent and have struggled at times early in the season, but they do have impressive wins over then #15 ranked Connecticut and on the road at UAB.

Although the Mountaineers have not earned Top 25 recognition in either the Associated Press or Coaches Polls, CBS Sports’ latest power rankings gave West Virginia a ton of respect.

In CBS Sports’ recently-released power rankings, the Mountaineers are ranked as the 15th best team in the nation.

CBS Sports says the following of West Virginia: “The Mountaineers will open Big 12 play on the road in a tasty game against Texas on Saturday Bob Huggins is 7-5 vs. Chris Beard, with all 12 meetings coming in recent years when Beard was at Texas Tech. If WVU wins, it will mark the sixth time the ‘Eers have started a season 12-1 under Huggins (2009-10, ’14-15, ’15-16, ’16-17, ’17-18).”

West Virginia opens Big 12 Conference play at noon this Saturday, January 1st in Austin, Texas against the 17th ranked Texas Longhorns. The game will be televised live on ESPN.
