West Virginia Suffers Humiliating Defeat at Kansas

Lawrence, Kansas – The West Virginia Mountainers (7-2 overall, 1-1 in the Big 12 Conference) didn’t rebound, didn’t guard against perimeter shots, didn’t make free throws, and played their worst game of the season against the #3 ranked Kansas Jayhawks, losing 79-65.

If West Virginia played at all like they’re capable of, this was a very winnable game and unfortunately the Mountaineers blew a golden opportunity to get a huge win at Kansas.

Looking at the stats provided by StatBroadcast, most of West Virginia’s players had absolutely miserable nights.

Although Sean McNeil had 22 points on 8-11 from the field and 6-9 from three point range, he finished with a +/- of -24, based largely on his atrocious defensive play.

Oscar Tshiebwe, who looks absolutely lost on both ends of the floor right now, finished with 3 points (1-5 FG) and 3 rebounds in 15 minutes and a +/- of -12.

Emmitt Matthews Jr. continues to get solid minutes for the Mountaineers despite terrible offensive performance.  Tonight, Matthews finished with 6 points on 3-10 FG and 0-3 from three point range, and a +/- of -10.

The most productive player of the night was Miles McBride, who had a +/- of 0 with 17 points on 7-15 and 1-4 from the three point range.

The overall performance was just atrocious and massively disappointing.  The Mountaineers will have be off until January 2nd when they travel to play the Oklahoma Sooners and then the Oklahoma State Cowboys on January 4th.
