West Virginia Versus Pitt Backyard Brawl Date Changed

Morgantown, West Virginia – Moments ago, West Virginia University issued a press release announcing that the season opening football game between the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Pitt Panthers has been moved from Saturday, September 3rd to Thursday, September 1st for a night game!

In addition, the Mountaineers’ road game against Virginia Tech has been moved as well. Originally scheduled for Saturday, September 24th, the game will now be played on Thursday, September 22. The game will also be played at night.

In the press release, West Virginia’s Director of Athletics, Shane Lyons, said the following: “Moving two of our oldest football rivalries to primetime continues to build excitement for the 2022 season. Fans will get to start the Labor Day Weekend with the Backyard Brawl, which is a great way to renew one of the best rivalries in college football. And if heading to Blacksburg for the first time since 2004 wasn’t hard enough, changing it to a Thursday night matchup will showcase the rivalry even more to college football fans around the country.”
