West Virginia’s Next Breakout Superstar

Morgantown, West Virginia – Just a quick 35 minute drive north of Morgantown, Uniontown, Pennsylvania is the home of Rodney Gallagher, a two-sport four star athlete in both basketball and football.

Gallagher, a 6’0 180 pound four star prospect, is currently Pennsylvania’s #1 ranked prospect in football and the state’s #2 ranked recruit in basketball in the 2023 class, and although he has kept his recruitment process relatively secret, the West Virginia Mountaineers are absolutely a very real possibility for him.

In fact, it’s starting to look more and more like Gallagher will ultimately end up in Morgantown. During his recent senior prom in high school, Gallagher wore a gold and blue suit, and his father was photographed with a West Virginia hat on. Although this is far from proof that he will commit to play for the Mountaineers, these are certainly clues that he could be leaning in that direction.

In addition to West Virginia, Gallagher has been heavily recruited by Penn State, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, NC State, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, among several others.

Gallagher visited Morgantown over last summer and said that he really liked the campus, facilities and enjoyed meeting with the coaching staffs of both the football and basketball teams. However, he recently announced that he intends to only play football in college.

As a point guard for the basketball team at Laurel Highlands High School, Gallagher averaged 19.4 points, 5.4 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game as a sophomore last season.  He was also a first-team all-state basketball player as a freshman.

In football, Gallagher plays wide receiver offensively and safety or linebacker on the defensive side of the ball.  Last season, he had 61 receptions for 883 yards and 38 tackles as a defensive player.

Gallagher’s decision will ultimately come down to Pitt, Penn State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State or West Virginia. He plans to make one final visit to each school this summer and this will make his announcement on July 4th.

Stayed tuned! If Rodney Gallagher chooses West Virginia on July 4th, he has the talent, athleticism and charisma to be a breakout star for the Mountaineers!
