Who is Really Wearing the Number “0” for the Mountaineers This Season?

Last month, multiple reports from several different WVU related outlets reported that wide receiver Isaiah Esdale would be making the historic move to wearing the number “0” for the Mountaineers in 2020. This would make him the first Mountaineer to do so, as the NCAA only recently began to allow players to wear the number in football.

However, while WVU will have a player wearing the number “0” — it will not be Isaiah Esdale. Instead, it will be wide receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton.

As can be seen on the roster page on the WVUSports.com website, the number “0” is by Ford-Wheaton’s last name, indicating he will be the one donning the number. In the team’s locker room reaction video, Ford-Wheaton’s locker also indicates that he will be wearing “0,” as seen above.

According to the team’s site, Isaiah Esdale is still changing his jersey number. He will be wearing the number “9” this fall.
