We are a little less than 48 hours from kickoff for the 2020 Autozone Liberty Bowl. The Mountaineers will be making the trip to Memphis to take on the Army Black Knights, who replaced Tennessee after the Volunteers opted out due to COVID-19 issues.
This matchup is intriguing to many around the nation as it will pin two teams with completely different playing styles against each other. While it may be a hard matchup to gauge, we have confidence that West Virginia will come out on top in this matchup.
Here are three reasons why the Mountaineers will ultimately be the champions of the 2020 Liberty Bowl:
- More talented: All due respect to the young men on the other sideline, but they just aren’t the most talented football players around. There is a large gap in talent differential between the Mountaineers and Black Knights, and with the time to prepare, this should certainly show itself. Look for West Virginia to impose their will in this one.
- Neal Brown: During his time at Troy, Neal Brown was excellent in bowl games. He led the Trojans to a 3-0 record in the postseason, and this success should translate to West Virginia. Brown wants to be there, and this energy will be reciprocated in his players.
- Defense wins championships: Many are worried about how WVU will handle the triple option, but we have no concerns. The Mountaineer defense has been stout in all but one game this season, and with time to prepare should live up to their hype. Expect the Jordan Lesley-Jahmile Addae led unit to give the Black Knights fits.
