MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — West Virginia is bringing back one of its most versatile and electrifying players for another season.
Mountaineer utility standout Armani Guzman announced that he will return to Morgantown for the 2027 season, giving head coach Steve Sabins another proven playmaker as West Virginia looks to build on one of the most successful stretches in program history. Guzman’s decision is a major boost for the Mountaineers, as his ability to impact the game in every facet made him one of the team’s most valuable players throughout the 2026 campaign.

Guzman followed up a promising sophomore season with a breakout junior campaign, becoming one of the catalysts behind West Virginia’s historic run to the program’s first-ever College World Series appearance. During the postseason, he delivered some of the biggest moments of the year, including a walk-off RBI single against Kentucky to send the Mountaineers to the Super Regionals before stealing home in Omaha for West Virginia’s first College World Series run and setting the school’s single-season stolen base record.
As a sophomore in 2025, Guzman hit .327 with two home runs, 22 RBIs, 35 hits, 27 runs scored and a team-leading 17 stolen bases in 19 attempts despite making just 25 starts in 49 appearances. He was also named the NCAA Clemson Regional MVP and earned a spot on the NCAA Clemson Regional All-Tournament Team after leading the Mountaineers to a regional championship.
Whether he’s making highlight-reel plays in the field, wreaking havoc on the basepaths or delivering in clutch situations at the plate, Guzman has developed into one of the faces of West Virginia baseball. His decision to return gives the Mountaineers another experienced leader and one of the Big 12’s most dynamic all-around players as they set their sights on another deep postseason run.
