MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — West Virginia fans have been waiting for this moment for years, and judging by the demand for tickets, Morgantown is more than ready for Super Regional baseball.
With Kendrick Family Ballpark expected to be packed to capacity for this weekend’s best-of-three series against Cal Poly, WVU Athletics Director Wren Baker took to social media to provide an update for fans who may not be able to get inside the stadium. Fortunately, one of the most unique viewing spots in college baseball will once again be open and ready for Mountaineer Nation.
“I wish we could accommodate everyone inside Kendrick Family Ballpark,” Baker wrote. “But Randy’s Ridge has emerged as a great (and free) alternative for many Mountaineers. We are adding portable restrooms & trash cans in the area. There will be 1000 FREE pepperoni rolls! Who knows, former head coach Randy Mazey himself might make an appearance. Be safe, have fun and as always Let’s Go Mountaineers!”

Not only is Kendrick Family Ballpark sold out, but fans are expected to line Randy’s Ridge throughout the weekend to catch a glimpse of what could be the biggest series in program history. The now-famous hillside beyond the outfield fence has become a staple of the Morgantown baseball experience and has evolved into one of the most recognizable fan sections in college baseball.
Of course, the mention of free pepperoni rolls immediately caught the attention of Mountaineer fans. After all, there may not be a more West Virginia way to spend a summer afternoon than watching baseball on Randy’s Ridge with a pepperoni roll in hand. Throw in the possibility of former head coach Randy Mazey making an appearance, and it’s easy to see why the atmosphere is expected to be electric all weekend long.
The excitement surrounding the series is understandable. West Virginia enters the Super Regional just two wins away from the College World Series after capturing the Morgantown Regional championship with back-to-back wins over Kentucky. Now, Steve Sabins and the Mountaineers have a chance to make even more history in front of what should be one of the largest and loudest baseball crowds the state has ever seen.
