MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — West Virginia is getting one of its biggest recruiting visits of the fall when four-star big man Tyran Frazier arrives in Morgantown for Gold Rush weekend. Frazier is a 6-foot-9 2027 recruit from St. Louis, Missouri, ranked No. 51 overall and the No. 7 center in the class by the 247Sports Composite. He is considering West Virginia and Virginia Tech, and this visit gives Ross Hodge and his staff an important opportunity to show him what the Mountaineers can offer.

Frazier is an intriguing prospect because he brings the size and length programs look for in a frontcourt player, along with room to keep growing his game. Scouting reports point to his work around the basket: he rebounds, finishes near the rim, and has the length and athleticism to affect shots defensively. That kind of presence could give Hodge options on both ends of the floor as he continues to shape the roster.

Frazier has also had a chance to test himself against strong competition. He played for RWE in Overtime Elite, where he averaged 6.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game across 10 games while shooting 49 percent from the field. On the Nike EYBL circuit with Brad Beal Elite, he averaged 6.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game at Peach Jam. Those numbers offer a snapshot of his production, but his size, defensive potential and development are part of what makes him a high-level 2027 target.

The timing of WVU’s recruiting push is notable, too. Frazier told On3 that West Virginia’s communication picked up after Peach Jam, and the Gold Rush visit will let him see the program up close. He’ll have a chance to get a feel for the campus, meet with Hodge and the staff, and watch how the Mountaineers operate in practice. Just as important, the visit gives WVU a chance to explain how it sees Frazier fitting into the system and developing over time.

If West Virginia were to land Frazier, it would be a significant addition to Hodge’s 2027 recruiting class. A commitment from a nationally ranked four-star big man would give the program a promising young post presence to develop and would help lay a foundation for the frontcourt beyond the current roster. Frazier’s ability to rebound and protect the rim could eventually complement WVU’s guards and wings, while his offensive game continues to expand. He would have time to grow into the college game, add strength and learn the demands of playing in the Big 12.

Of course, a recruiting visit is only one part of the process, and there is no commitment to announce yet. Virginia Tech is also in the picture, so West Virginia will need to make a strong impression and show Frazier why Morgantown is the right fit for him. Still, getting him on campus for a high-energy weekend is a meaningful opportunity. Frazier is one of the top big men in the 2027 class, and if Hodge can turn this visit into a long-term connection, it could become a major win for the future of Mountaineer basketball.
