MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — Ross Hodge continues to build something pretty exciting at West Virginia, and the Mountaineers could be getting close to adding even more high-end talent to the program. After a full season under Hodge, WVU appears to be gaining some real momentum on the recruiting trail, and there are two four-star prospects in the 2027 class that Mountaineer fans should be watching very closely: center Tyran Frazier and point guard Javion Tyndale.
Frazier might be the biggest name to watch over the next couple of weeks. The 6-foot-9, 205-pound center from The Principia School in St. Louis is rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports. He’s ranked No. 59 overall nationally, No. 7 among centers and No. 2 in Missouri. The 247Sports Composite has him even higher at No. 51 overall in the country and No. 7 at his position.
West Virginia is scheduled to get Frazier on campus for a visit on September 25, and that could end up being a huge weekend for Hodge and his staff. Frazier has already visited Virginia Tech, and right now this appears to be shaping up as a battle between the Mountaineers and Hokies. Cincinnati, Miami and Mississippi State are among the other programs that have offered him, but WVU and Virginia Tech appear to be the two schools to watch.
The timing of Frazier’s visit could work out very well for West Virginia. Virginia Tech got the first visit on September 5, but now Hodge and his staff will have an opportunity to get Frazier in Morgantown and make the final impression. When you’re talking about a top-60 national prospect at a premium position, this would be a major recruiting win for the Mountaineers. Frazier has the size and talent to become an important piece of WVU’s frontcourt down the road, and landing him would be another sign that Hodge is capable of attracting legitimate high-major talent to Morgantown.

The other name to keep a very close eye on is four-star point guard Javion Tyndale, and we won’t have to wait nearly as long to find out where he’s headed. Tyndale is scheduled to announce his college decision on September 21. The 5-foot-8, 155-pound point guard plays at national powerhouse Montverde Academy in Florida and is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 66 overall player and No. 14 point guard in the country. The Composite ranks him No. 58 nationally and No. 13 among point guards.
Obviously, Tyndale isn’t going to overwhelm anyone with his size, but just about everything else about his game explains why he’s a four-star prospect. He’s extremely quick, tough, aggressive with the basketball and has a knack for getting into the paint. He can create for teammates, pressure opposing guards defensively and plays with a confidence that you want from your point guard. He’s also built a reputation as a winner through his time at Montverde Academy and with the Canadian national team.
There has been plenty of talk connecting Tyndale to West Virginia, particularly because of his connection with Yusuf Ali. From everything surrounding this recruitment, WVU would be extremely difficult to beat if Hodge and his staff decided to make Tyndale one of their top priorities. In fact, the feeling has been that if West Virginia truly wants him, he’s theirs.
NEWS: 2027 4⭐️ Javion Tyndale (@JavionTyndale) is making his college announcement next Monday, September 21st, he told @LeagueRDY. Tyndale is down to six schools:

However, there’s an interesting twist to this recruitment. There have also been rumors recently that West Virginia has backed off Tyndale somewhat while putting more attention toward other guards on its 2027 recruiting board. Loyola Chicago, UNLV, Providence and Seton Hall are among the other programs involved, so Tyndale’s September 21 announcement will be interesting to watch. This might ultimately be less about whether Tyndale wants to come to West Virginia and more about exactly where he currently sits on Hodge’s recruiting board.
Regardless of what happens with Tyndale, the bigger picture is what should have West Virginia fans excited. Hodge and his staff are consistently putting WVU in the conversation for highly ranked players. Frazier and Tyndale are both legitimate four-star, top-100 prospects, and the Mountaineers have positioned themselves to potentially land either one.
Tyndale makes his decision on September 21, and just five days later Frazier is scheduled to visit Morgantown. That means the next couple of weeks could tell us quite a bit about what West Virginia’s 2027 recruiting class is going to look like.
If Hodge can eventually land both, WVU would be adding two top-60 Composite prospects at two of the most important positions on the floor. Even if Tyndale ultimately isn’t a take because the staff prefers another guard, the fact that West Virginia is in such a strong position with players of this caliber says plenty about where recruiting currently stands.
Ross Hodge has already had a full season to put his stamp on West Virginia basketball. Now we’re starting to see what he may be able to build for the future, and the next few weeks could bring some very good news to Morgantown.
