WVU Hosting USC Transfer Wide Receiver

With the West Virginia receivers room being thin following the departures of Bryce Ford-Wheaton, Sam James, Kaden Prather, and Reese Smith, Neal Brown and his offense will be looking for answers on the outside. The addition of true freshman Rodney Gallagher will help, however, there is still a need for some experience at the position.

This is where the transfer portal will come in.

Today, the Mountaineers are hosting one of the most sought after receivers in the portal in USC wide receiver C.J. Williams.

Williams is a former 247Sports four-star receiver. The talented California native garnered 49 offers, including West Virginia, during his recruiting process. Before ultimately choosing USC, he was committed to Notre Dame at one point.

During the 2022 season, Williams was used sparingly – nabbing 4 catches for 34 yards. Following a 46-45 loss to Tulane in the GoodYear Cotton Bowl, Williams announced his intentions to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.

At the moment, Williams has only taken one other visit than WVU, stopping in Madison, Wisconsin to visit Luke Fickell and the Badgers.

It will take a lot of effort from the WVU coaching staff, but landing Williams would be huge for the Mountaineers. Given the situation, it would be expected that he will step in and immediately be the No.1 guy for West Virginia.
