As we approach the 2023 College Football season, not many people, including myself, were giving the Mountaineers a chance to defeat Penn State on September 2nd. The Nittany Lions are coming off of an 11-2 season that included a 35-21 win over Utah in the Rose Bowl. West Virginia, on the other hand, just finished 5-7 to miss a bowl game for the second time in four years.
To say this is a mismatch would be a gargantuan understatement.
Fanduel has been on a roll as of late releasing lines for games in the early weeks of the 2023 season. The betting service has now revealed their spread for WVU-Penn State, and it is even worse than we originally would have thought.
West Virginia is an 18.5 point underdog against Penn State in Week 1 of the college football season. Thanks, Neal. #TRUSTTHECLIMB? #WVU

The Mountaineers will be going into the matchup as 18.5-point underdogs – a nearly three touchdown difference.
If this is how WVU is already being viewed before spring ball even gets underway, there’s no telling how bad things could get in 2023.
Nonetheless, “any given Saturday, right?
