Jacksonville, FL – Following a 4-2 win over Jacksonville to open the 2025 season on Friday night, the West Virginia Mountaineers returned to action on Saturday for a doubleheader with the Dolphins. After sixteen innings of baseball, Steve Sabins has improved to 3-0 as WVU’s head baseball coach, securing his first series win.
During the 1 p.m. matchup with the Dolphins, West Virginia used an impressive 6-run inning in the top of the 2nd to propel to a 10-3 victory. The Mountaineers piled up 16 hits to Jacksonville’s 6, and withheld a comeback attempt by the Dolphins during the 4th and 5th innings to put the game away.
The 4:30 p.m. matchup was a different story. In a tightly contested matchup, West Virginia took the lead with a Skylar King 2-run home run in the 4th inning and never relinquished it. The Mountaineers secured a 3-2 victory in the 7-inning matchup against the Dolphins, notching the series win.
West Virginia and Jacksonville close out their four game series tomorrow at 1 p.m. The game is set to broadcast on ESPN+.
