The Mountaineers opened the 2025 season in style, rolling past Robert Morris 45-3 on August 30 in Morgantown. From start to finish, WVU controlled the game and gave fans a lot to be excited about.

This outcome immediately alters perceptions for the rest of the season. For example, the analysis of week 2 college football odds will now heavily factor in the Mountaineers’ demonstrated offensive strength and Robert Morris’ defensive line vulnerabilities.

Marchiol Steady in First Start

Quarterback Nicco Marchiol looked sharp, going 17-for-20 for 224 yards and tossing a touchdown. He also added a rushing score, showing poise and command of the offense.

White and Vaughn Lead the Charge

Running back Jahiem White picked up right where he left off last year, carrying the ball 18 times for 93 yards and two touchdowns.
On the outside, Cam Vaughn was the go-to guy — seven catches, 126 yards, and a score.

It was a balanced attack that Robert Morris had no answer for.

Rich Rod Wants More

Head coach Rich Rodriguez praised the effort but made it clear he’s not letting his team get comfortable. He stressed improvement each week, win or lose, and said this group has plenty more to prove.

What’s Next

The Mountaineers hit the road for their first test away from Morgantown: a matchup with Ohio University in Athens on September 6. Then comes the Backyard Brawl at home against Pitt on September 13, followed by a trip to Kansas on September 20.

It’s a tough stretch, but starting the season with such a dominant win gives WVU real momentum heading into September.
