The West Virginia Mountaineers finished the 2022 season with a 5-7 overall record and a 3-6 record in Big 12 play. It was the team’s third losing season in four years under Head Coach Neal Brown – good enough for a tie-for 8th place in the conference (with Oklahoma and Kansas).

Chris Vannini of The Athletic released the outlet’s final rankings for all 131 FBS teams, including WVU. The Mountaineers, who were not eligible for bowl season, finished considerably low.

Neal Brown’s squad finished 75th in the rankings, just within the bottom half of the overall standings. Of course this will not sit well with West Virginia fans, but it is unfortunately where the program is at this point in time.

Before we kick things off in 2023, Brown will have his work cut out for him to improve. If not, then we will likely be looking for WVU to have conducted a new coaching search by this time next year.
