As we learned in 2020, just because a game is scheduled does not mean that it for sure will happen. However, the Mountaineers have non-conference opponents on the schedule all the way up until the 2028 season. Today, we are going to take a look at these opponents, and highlight which ones we believe will be marquee matchups.

9/2: vs Tennessee (Charlotte, NC)
Having traditional rivals Virginia Tech, Penn State and Pitt on the schedule should warm the hearts of Mountaineer fans. It has been a decade since we last saw regional rivals of this frequency on the schedule. The athletic department has done a tremendous job getting those on the docket for the fans.
Alabama is obviously the biggest opponent on here. It is rare that the Crimson Tide schedules a home-and-home series with someone, but the Mountaineers got it done. A big shout out to Shane Lyons and all of those involved.
The matchup in Charlotte against Tennessee will be exactly ten years and one day since the two sides met up at that exact location. Though 2028 is a long time off, it will be interesting just to see where both programs are at in that point in time.
