WVU’s Quarterbacks Ranked Worst in Big 12

Athlon Sports recently released their 2023 College Football preview magazine. It was evident that the outlet doesn’t think very highly of the Mountaineers this season.

Morgantown, WV – Athlon Sports released their 2023 College Football preview last month. All 133 FBS teams were studied by the outlet, and then were ranked based on their skill levels. As for the Mountaineers, it was evident in this year’s preview that Athlon does not think very highly of them.

In the 2023 unit rankings, West Virginia’s quarterback room was rated the worst in the entire Big 12 – 14th out of 14. This is most likely due to the fact that the signal-caller is still a position of many questions for WVU.

Garrett Greene and Nicco Marchiol are both talented, but very inexperienced. This is not an ideal situation for any team, even give the incredible skill sets of both players.

With Greene being the only quarterback on the roster with any significant playing time, Athlon has him listed as WVU’s starting quarterback on the depth chart. However, Neal Brown has made it clear that he will not name a starting quarterback until well into fall camp.

WVU’s wide receivers, and defensive backs were also rated the worst in the conference at their respective positions.

The Mountaineers will have a chance to silence all of the doubters when they travel to Penn State on September 2nd. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on NBC.
