CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Best Virginia, the West Virginia alumni squad, continues its march toward the $1 million prize in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) after a gritty, high-energy 74-61 win over Maryland alumni team Shell Shock in the quarterfinals.

Fueled by a home crowd and a swarming defensive effort, Best Virginia took control early and never looked back, pulling away for a win to punch their ticket to the semifinals.

Best Virginia was led by former North Texas guard James Reese V, who had 24 points and 3 assists. Toby Okani, who played for the Mountaineers last season, had 8 points and 4 rebounds, former WVU point guard Kedrian Johnson added 4 points and 5 rebounds, and former Mountaineer Wesley Harris added 6 points and 7 rebounds.

Shell Shock, a squad full of high-level talent, tried to mount a comeback in the second half but couldn’t overcome the physicality and pace of Best Virginia. With the win, Best Virginia advances to the TBT semifinals where the stakes only get higher—and the dream of bringing a TBT championship home to the Mountain State is very much alive.
