MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — West Mifflin (Pa.) Area High School running back Armand Hill, a four-star prospect in the 2027 class, has decommitted from the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Hill announced his decision Thursday night, ending a commitment that had been in place since March 2025.

One of the top running backs in the region, Hill emerged as a priority target for West Virginia early in his recruitment after a dominant start to his high school career. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound standout rushed for more than 3,200 yards and 43 touchdowns across his first two seasons, quickly putting himself on the radar of major programs across the country.

West Virginia was one of Hill’s earliest Power Five offers, and he ultimately chose the Mountaineers over a strong list that included Michigan, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Maryland, and Syracuse.

At the time of his commitment, Hill was viewed as an ideal fit for Rich Rodriguez’s offensive system.

“Hill is a dynamic athlete who possesses excellent vision, cutting ability, and speed, making him a near-perfect match for what the Mountaineers want to do on offense,” WVSports.com’s Keenan Cummings wrote last summer. “He is a threat to score every time he touches the football and that will be a strong fit for Rich Rodriguez’s offense.”

Hill’s decision is a significant early blow to West Virginia’s 2027 recruiting class. With his decommitment, the Mountaineers currently have zero pledges in the cycle. The program also lost three-star linebacker Minikon Johnson earlier this year, who decommitted back in November.

According to the Rivals Industry Rankings, Hill is currently ranked No. 305 overall nationally and No. 23 among running backs in the 2027 class, making him one of the highest-profile prospects West Virginia had secured for the future.

Despite the setback in the 2027 cycle, the overall trajectory of WVU recruiting under Rich Rodriguez remains strong.

West Virginia’s 2026 class is shaping up to be one of the most impressive in the Big 12, currently ranked No. 21 nationally and No. 2 in the conference. The group is headlined by four-star interior offensive lineman Kevin Brown, four-star safety Matt Sieg, and four-star running back Amari Latimier.

That class represents the program’s highest-ranked recruiting haul since Dana Holgorsen’s 2013 group finished No. 20 nationally.

Hill’s decommitment does not signal panic in Morgantown, but it does reset West Virginia’s efforts in the 2027 cycle. With two years still to go before signing day, the Mountaineers will look to reestablish momentum and stay in the mix for top regional talent moving forward.
