The New York Knicks will be without one of their key rotation guards for the foreseeable future.
Knicks guard Miles McBride, better known to fans as “Deuce,” is scheduled to undergo surgery Friday to repair a core muscle injury—more commonly referred to as a sports hernia. The procedure could sideline McBride until the NBA playoffs.
McBride has been dealing with the injury for several weeks, and after continued discomfort, the team opted for surgery to ensure a full recovery rather than attempting to manage the issue through the remainder of the regular season.

While the timetable for return will depend on how McBride responds post-surgery, recovery from sports hernia procedures often ranges from several weeks to a few months. That places his potential return around playoff time, though the Knicks have not provided an official timeline.
The 25-year-old guard has become an important piece of New York’s backcourt, providing perimeter defense, toughness, and reliable minutes off the bench. His absence could force the Knicks to lean more heavily on their remaining guard rotation as the team pushes toward the postseason.
Miles McBride played two seasons at West Virginia Mountaineers from 2019 to 2021 and developed into one of the Big 12’s toughest, most respected guards. As a freshman during the 2019–20 season, McBride came off the bench in a deep WVU rotation and averaged about 9.5 points per game, flashing his defensive instincts, physical on-ball pressure, and growing confidence as a scorer. His play earned him a spot on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team and set the stage for a breakout sophomore year. In the 2020–21 season, McBride emerged as a full-time starter and team leader, averaging roughly 15.9 points, 4.8 assists, and 1.9 steals per game
More updates on McBride’s recovery and return status are expected following Friday’s surgery.
